Discoures...

I believe that I am in a primary discourse, American wise because I was born in America and I am a US citizen. Because of that, I feel like i have a head start from those who aren't as familiar with the US culture. My primary discourse comes from my home and how I grew up. My secondary discourses comes from school, church, and just public places and events that I go to.

I wouldn't consider myself in the dominant discoures because i'm not rich, im not the top boss in the world and i'm not white, not saying that in a racial way but people who are in the dominant discoures of majority white. I also wouldn't consider myself that because I haven't reached that level in life in only 16 years old and that's such a young age to even have a voice or impact that big to society.I feel that dominant discourses should change in ways of letting people be heard and having more diversity. But, honestly I don't think that that would change, well at least in my life time.

I feel that Dominant discourses need to be more open minded and change their cultural beliefs or whatever you call it because it's just wrong how people judge others everyday just from their appearance or how they speak forgetting that everyone doesn't come from the same place. We all have different backgrounds and cultures...so why do that??

  2. Great point about your age; I think it's so important to remember that this society does not listen to youth, but, rather, tells youth how to listen. Excellent point. Do you think there should even be a dominant discourse? How do you think we could challenge the dominant culture to allow more voices/discourses in?

  4. Agreed it is unfair for the older "More experienced" people do things like not listen to the youth. We as our generation have just as good of ideas as any "excuse my language" old geezers so why is it that people like that could just ignore us as we are a nobody.
